First thought that comes to mind is how awesome the movie "Meet Joe Black", is. There are a couple of movies that Brad Pitt are in (Fight Club, A River Runs Through It, etc...), that require more mental exertion than your normal blockbuster. This one is freaking awesome. It's about the spiritual manifestation of death taking a man's life for the purpose of using his body to experience life. Right before Death kills this man he is in the course of having a conversation with a woman in a cafe during which the woman happens to fall in love with him. Death chooses a guide, a mortal, to be his guide in life and the person he chooses just so happens to be this woman's Father... I KNOW RIGHT?! awesome. Super Original. Well I thought it was original until I looked it up on Wikipedia and found out it was ripped off of an old Twilight Zone episode from the fifties. Well whatever. Still cool.
